Rainier exclusive
Most retractable awnings need at least 6'7" of wall to install. The Rainier's cross-arm geometry folds smaller — making it the only model in our lineup that handles bay windows, narrow patios, and tight side yards.
Rainier cross-arm
4'0" minimum width · 9-cable ART belt · 60,000 cycles · 900+ lbs spring tension
Standard lateral arm
6'7" minimum width · standard ART · most homes won't have a problem, but narrow ones will
Cross-arm geometry compresses tighter when retracted — fits walls as narrow as 4'0"
9-cable ART belt tested to 60,000 cycles — opening and closing twice a day for over 80 years
900+ lbs of spring tension keeps the fabric tight even at narrow widths
Same Somfy motor and Sunbrella fabric as the rest of our retractable lineup
Ideal for bay windows, narrow side patios, condo decks, townhome balconies

Three ways to install
01
Wall mounted
The most common installation type. The bracket attaches directly to an exterior wall, typically above a door, window, or sliding glass door. Ideal for narrow walls where the cross-arm Rainier really shines — bay windows, side yards, condo balconies.
02
Roof mounted
Used when wall space is limited or when the roofline provides the best angle for coverage. Precision flashing and weatherproof sealing refined over 125 years of Pacific Northwest installs.

Customer stories
★★★★★
Heather P. — Edmonds, WA
"Our patio is awkwardly narrow — only about 5 feet of usable wall. The Rainier was the only awning that would fit. Two summers in and it's been flawless. The crew worked clean and got it up in a single afternoon."
★★★★★
Marcus T. — Capitol Hill, Seattle
"Three other awning companies told me my bay window space was too narrow. Rainier measured, said the cross-arm Rainier would fit, and it did. Looks like it was always meant to be there."
★★★★★
Jeanne Ballot — Pacific Northwest
"Another amazing experience with Rainier Shade. True professionals who go above and beyond every time. Thank you for helping to keep my house cooler in summer and warmer in winter!"
★★★★★
Daniel R. — Kirkland, WA
"Townhome balcony, very limited width. The Rainier was the only retractable that would work. Installers were courteous, professional, and finished in a few hours. Highly recommend."
